If you have kids, then the WNC Ag Center is a MUST STOP this weekend. That’s when the WEE TRADE Spring Event happens. Mountains of baby gear, toys, clothing, furniture, books, games — you name it. If it’s for kids, you’ll find it there, and you’ll find it at a great bargain!! Prices are remarkable and you don’t have to worry about going home with something that doesn’t work or clothing that has holes or tears. The WEE TRADE team inspects each item to ensure that only the best is put out for sale.
Presale takes place Friday, February 18. The sale opens to the public at 8 a.m. Saturday, February 19 and runs until 8 p.m. Sunday, February 20 is half price* day from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
*Consignors have the choice of whether their items are discounted by half.

My daughter asked today for a reward for getting on the A/B Honor Roll and also for getting two positive referrals today. Her choice: a doughnut from Dunkin’ Donuts on Merrimon Avenue in Asheville.
Big surprise at the checkout counter. As my daughter looked over the selection, the woman behind the counter asked if she had her report card with her. She said kids who get all A’s and B’s get a FREE DOZEN of their choice. Note: I do not know if all DD’s do this or what schools each one covers. I retrieved the report card from the car and here’s what she selected:

Earth Fare has a great new deal for customers who sign up on their new website. Once you enter your email address and other information, you’ll have a chance to print a coupon good for dinner for four. The coupon entitles the bearer to a whole chicken fryer or Earth Fare veggie burgers, a container of Roasted Mashed Potatoes (vegan or regular) and a bag of organic carrots. In order to get the deal, you just have to spend $10.
I went to get mine and found that my freebies totaled about $16.35 (it varies based on the weight of the chicken/potatoes). Check out my goodies below: THANK YOU EARTH FARE!

The City of Asheville says gates at all city parking garages are open. Parking is available in city garages free of charge. Downtown residents are encouraged to move vehicles, if possible to do so safely, to parking garages to make room for snow plows and other equipment. Parking will continue to be free in all city garages until at least 6 a.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2011.
Okay, I’ll admit, I have a great love for The Hop and I don’t get a kickback to say that. I just really like the fact that owners Greg and Ashley Garrison are so friendly and so community minded. Plus, they make the best ice cream EVER!
They’ve come up with a fantastic January bargain: Free Kiddie Scoop Mondays! The deal is good every Monday in January (3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st) at both locations: Merrimon Avenue and West Asheville. Buy any menu item and get a free kiddie scoop of your choice of ice cream.
While January is usually a bit drab after all the colors of the holiday season, this is a fab way to spice it up.
Okay, this isn’t the typical free lunch, but Haywood Street Church in Asheville, N.C. isn’t your typical church. I met Pastor Brian Combs a few weeks ago and I was blown away by the ministry he has created. Every Wednesday, the church provides a free lunch, a community table of sorts that connects businesspeople with the homeless, caring souls with broken souls. The group breaks bread together and then worships together. All are invited for this free lunch downtown with no strings attached.
My friend, David Bourne, at Bourne Media recently shot video for a piece about Haywood Street. It’s worth watching… just click the link below:

Looking for great deals on Christmas toys, holiday clothing, books, games and bikes? The Wee Trade Holiday Sale takes place today through Saturday at the Boone Cabin at the WNC Agricultural Center across from the Asheville Airport. So MANY great deals!! I went to the pre-sale yesterday and snagged some great bargains. Shh! I can’t tell or my tweens might discover my secrets here on my blog.
Wee Trade owners Nina Miller and Rita London have created some fabulous sales in the past. This time, the space is a little cozier than the big building they use for the August and February sales, but it’s still overflowing with deals.
The Wee Trade Holiday Sale is open today and tomorrow, November 18 and 19, 2010, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Half price day is Saturday, November 20, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
As if you needed any new reason to visit The Hop on Merrimon Avenue, owners Greg and Ashley Garrison have a special deal on Wednesdays: 99 cent lattes made with Fair Trade Organic Locally Roasted Espresso from AVL Coffee Roasters.
I was in Sylva, N.C. yesterday working on a magazine article and felt like I was deep in the bowels of Florida. The blistering heat made me feel as if I was in a furnace.
Good FREE news for those suffering from the heat: Eblen-Kimmel Charities in Asheville are giving away fans at its office at 50 Westgate Parkway in Asheville. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For details of the giveaway, call them at 828-255-3066.
The Buncombe County Council on Aging is also providing free fans to people over the age of 60, or those under 60 who have a disability. Their number: 828-277-8288.
I am loving this promotion. For one, the Grove Park Inn is one of my favorite places in Asheville. For two, they have some of the best food and the best people working there.
Now, for the deal. Horizons Dining Room is offering a 20% discount on Mondays and Wednesdays to local WNC residents who live in Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, and Transylvania counties. The cities and surrounding areas included are Asheville, Hendersonville, Weaverville, Black Mountain, Waynesville, Clyde, Maggie Valley and Brevard.
A valid N.C. driver’s license is required to get the “friends” discount. Holidays are not included.
