FREE Kids’ Fishing Days

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is hosting special fishing days for kids across the state in early June. To see the whole list of where you can take the kids in WNC, along with dates and times, see the schedule here. There are 36 events across the state allowing kids to fish for free as well as earn prizes, including two lifetime fishing licenses.

The grand prize is a lifetime combination freshwater/saltwater fishing license, valued at $450 and donated by Neuse Sport Shop, located in Kinston. First prize is a freshwater fishing license, valued at $250, and donated by the N.C. State Council of Trout Unlimited. Bass Pro Shops is donating 50 fishing-related prizes, such as tackle boxes, rod and reel combos and fishing line while the Wildlife Commission is donating another 50 prizes, any of which would be a perfect addition to a young angler’s tackle box.

The Wildlife Commission will also take efforts to make sure kids can actually catch fish by stocking waters with such varieties as catfish, bluegill and trout.

The drawing for the 102 prizes will be held in late June, and winners will be posted on the Commission’s website.
