Grandfather Mountain in the High Country of North Carolina is offering $1 admission to residents of six N.C. counties and their guests during the month of April. The counties include Mitchell, Avery, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany and Wilkes.
The discount is extended to students who attend colleges and universities in the High Countryand to guests traveling in the same vehicle. Participants will be asked to present a driver’s license, college ID or local utility bill as proof of High Country residency.
Grandfather Mountain is open every day in April, weather permitting. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 1 – 3 with ticket sales ending at 5 p.m. Hours extend to 7 p.m. on April 4, with ticket sales ending at 6 p.m. For current conditions, call the entrance gate at 828-733-4337.

Fuddruckers Restaurant at 130 Charlotte Street in Asheville, N.C. is another dining establishment that gives parents a break when dining out with kids. Children eat free after 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
Deerpark Restaurant on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, N.C. offers families of young children a price break on dining. Kids under the age of nine eat free all the time at Deerpark.
Keep in mind Estate Admission is needed in order to eat at Deerpark, but if you live close enough to visit Biltmore frequently, a year’s admission pass is an affordable $79 a year per adult for a limited time. This price is $20 off the regular $99 price for a year’s pass, and is good through the end of March, 2009.

Tuesday night may become movie night for a lot of families looking for a cheaper way to enjoy the big screen. Carmike Cinemas has announced its “Stimulus Tuesday” program which gives moviegoers the chance to buy a 46-ounce bag of popcorn for $1, as well as 16-ounce soft drinks for $1.
Carmike plans to offer the program at all of its 250 theaters, including the one in Asheville. The promotion begins March 10, 2009.
